National service program gets story line on ABC Family sitcom

Around these parts, we all know about how great it is to be a part of AmeriCorps. Now even more people are learning about national service from the comfort of their living room couch – or tablet or mobile device, we don’t judge – through a story line on ABC Family’s “Melissa & Joey.”

The Jan. 28 episode featured Mel’s (played by Melissa Joan Hart) son Ryder deciding to serve a year with AmeriCorps in New Orleans. Right now he’s doing it for a girl, but we’re sure he’ll learn a lot more about himself if he sticks it out and finishes his term.

We’re hoping that Ryder’s pairing with AmeriCorps is as magical as the sitcom combo of Hart and Joey Lawrence. Stay tuned.
