Veteran Foster Grandparent’s Long-Lost Service Medals Replaced
Montana Foster Grandparent Bernard Mulder flew combat missions during World War II, but his service medals disappeared 70 years ago while recuperating from a leg wound suffered in battle. U.S. Sen. Jon Tester awarded new ones to Mulder in a ceremony in Billings after the senator was contacted about helping to replace them.
During the ceremony, the 92-year-old was surrounded by children he mentors as a Foster Grandparent. Here’s a quote from the Billings Gazette article:
“He’s got the biggest heart. He’s a very patient person.” said Barb Brady, who coordinates the St. Vincent Foster Grandparent Program. “We’ve found that people who have served their country in other areas of their life make really good mentors. They don’t quit giving back to their community.”
