Rep. Webster Celebrates 20-Year Habitat-AmeriCorps Partnership

U.S. Representative Daniel Webster created a video to celebrate the 20-year partnership of Habitat for Humanity and AmeriCorps to help people obtain affordable housing, and the national service program’s 20th anniversary. The national service family thanks Rep. Webster and all public officials who continue to support our programs.

In a Small Town, Under a Big Sky

As we come to the close of Senior Corps Week 2014, we have one more story to share. Under the big sky of Missoula, Montana, Senior Corps volunteers in the RSVP, Senior Companion, and Foster Grandparent programs are coming together to build houses for Habitat for Humanity, help frail veterans and elderly stay independent, and provide one-on-one tutoring for kids. This is their story.

AmeriCorps NCCC team members build a Habitat for Humanity house in Bay St. Louis, MS. Begun in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Habitat for Humanity Bay-Waveland has engaged hundreds of AmeriCorps members and 5,000 volunteers to build more than 155 homes.  The affiliate has emphasized green construction, building the first house in Mississippi to receive a LEED Platinum green building certification, the highest level conferred by the U.S. Green Building Council.  One of Bay-Waveland Habitat’s houses was awarded the 2011 Green Affordable Project of the Year by the National Association of Home Builders.  AmeriCorps members serving with Habitat for Humanity, YouthBuild, and other organizations are helping build sustainable homes that conserve resources and reduce energy costs for homeowners.
