President Obama recently traveled to central Arkansas for a first hand look at the area affected by last week’s tornadoes and storms. The President spoke to survivors, first responders, and recovery workers.

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) has deployed hundreds of AmeriCorps and Senior Corps members in response to the severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding that have swept through the central and southern U.S.

In Arkansas, five AmeriCorps members deployed from Red Cross are providing client casework services. Three teams of FEMA Corps members are supporting FEMA operations.

Service & Gratitude: Scenes from the Oso, WA, mudslide recovery

President Obama visited Oso, WA, on Tuesday to survey the damage from the late March mudslide that devastated the community. In the audience were several of the national service members from the Washington Conservation Corps (WCC) and FEMA Corps branch of AmeriCorps NCCC who are serving in the recovery effort. 

As of mid-April, Washington state deployed 45 WCC AmeriCorps members and nine staff members to assist with resource delivery and base camp operations. FEMA deployed 42 FEMA Corps members to support administrative operations. In addition, the American Red Cross deployed four AmeriCorps members. .

"Anything and everything we can do to boost morale, we gotta do it," said AmeriCorps crew leader Brian Frankowski in a Seattle Post-Intelligencer story about the Presidential visit.
