Fried examines this issue and the benefits of programs such as Experience Corps, Foster Grandparents, Senior Companions, and RSVP for the volunteers and the people they serve. Fried finds that these programs offer service and cross-generational opportunities that help create positive outcomes that are beneficial to many, addressing many social needs through life-changing relationships with schools, in communities, and with their contemporaries.
