As we gather with family and friends this week, I am thankful for many things.
I’m thankful for my loving, wonderful family.
I’m thankful for our men and women in uniform, who go into harm’s way to protect our freedom.
I’m thankful for America’s volunteers, 64 million strong, for the extraordinary contribution they make to our communities and nation.
I’m thankful to our 400,000 Senior Corps volunteers and AmeriCorps members, and those making a difference through the Social Innovation Fund – passionate, dedicated people who make an intensive commitment, meeting important needs and serving in tough conditions because they want to be there.
And I’m thankful to the leaders of national service and volunteering, who work hard every day to unleash America’s giving spirit, ensuring opportunity, accountability, and impact.
The joy of the holiday season is the joy that comes from giving back, from serving others. All of us are in the business of fostering that spirit, not just during the holidays, but throughout the year. Through our collective effort, we make a powerful difference in millions of people’s lives.
I feel blessed to for the opportunity to advance this mission and work with such talented and dedicated people.
So as we gather together this Thanksgiving, let us remember those who need support, and commit to serving them throughout the year.
